POSITION
NEW PRODUCTS DEVELOPMENT TECHNICAL ASSISTANT
JOB SUMMARY
The New Products Development (NPD) Technical Assistant will act as the critical link between Research & Development (R&D) and Production, ensuring that every new product is ready for manufacturing. In this role, you will collaborate with R&D designers and the NPD Coordinator to verify the accuracy of Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Routes before certifying them in the ERP system. You will serve as the owner of data integrity—managing data for all products, Change Orders, maintaining version histories, and upholding strict NPD processes to ensure a seamless handoff from design to the production floor.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support, report to, and be directed by the Operations Director in his/her duties.
- Develop, manage, sustain, revise, and update the formal documentation of products utilizing design or drafting software, such as Adobe or Photoshop.
- Work closely alongside subject matter experts to develop supplemental documentation for production; this may include high quality manuals and support documentation for both internal and external consumption, including but is not limited to manuals or guides, product manuals or guides, QuickStart guides, quality control documentation manuals or guides, product illustrations, and signage or information placards.
- Collaborate with the NPD Coordinator, NPD Assistant, and R&D Designers to verify, validate, and certify new product BOMs and Routes in the ERP system.
- Maintain strict version histories for all BOMs and Routes within the ERP system to preserve data integrity and traceability.
- Apply technical knowledge of raw materials to create BOMs, build efficient cut layouts for production, and update associated product documentation.
- Process Change Orders to ensure all BOM and Route updates are accurately entered and certified in the ERP system.
- Possess an advanced understanding of standard raw materials and raw material SKUs used in building products.
- Maintain knowledge of patterns, materials, products, and uses of products produced by the company through advanced product training.
- Assist with the Time and Motion Study (TMS) process as directed by the Operation Director.
- Manage assigned tasks within the NPD task tracking process, currently Asana, to ensure accurate tracking of product and project timelines.
- Coordinate deliverables and deadlines with the Technical Illustrator to ensure timely and accurate drawings for various product documentation.
- Adhere to established NPD/R&D processes regarding product hand-offs while actively recommending improvements to streamline workflows.
- Support cross-functional communication to ensure accurate and timely product data transfer between Design and Production departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership to support the NPD team and broader organizational goals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Full-time, on-site position.
- May be required to travel for trade shows, training events, gear testing, customer locations, military installations, demonstration sites, industry or company events, and/or contract manufacturers to assist with implementing/communicating a new product to their production/R&D teams.
- May be required to work overtime and/or extended hours depending on business needs.
- Physical requirements may include sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and kneeling for up to and including 8 hours.
- Vision to view printed and electronic text and graphics.
- Ability to access information on computers, tablets, and electronics.
- Ability to handle and manipulate items with hands and/or fingers up to and including 8 hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Utilize appropriate software to perform job duties, such as but not limited to Adobe Creative Cloud, Fusion360, Asana, AccuMark, Cutworks, Lightburn, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Dynamics systems to facilitate job duties.
